This past weekend promised a warm sunny day at the beach. Jack and I jumped in the VW and headed for Cape Lookout where we thought we would try surf fishing. The surf was pretty high, but we tried anyway. However we finally came to the conclusion that it was just too dangerous after we were both wacked by a couple of wild waves and our tackle box was swept toward the sea. Fortunately, Jack caught it in time.

Then we headed up the coast to Netarts Bay where the mouth of the esturary and the ocean meet. Although it was much calmer, we still didn't catch any fish, but we did catch a lot of rays.

Finally, we went digging for cockles so we wouldn't be totally skunked, and Jack made a wonderful clam chowder for dinner tonight. Yum, yum.
